The dates will always be stored in ODBC format (Yank Style) as far as I 
have ever found out.
Trust me this really is the best way to store them. As has already been 
said store them this way and convert them locally.

You are heading for loads of grief if you try to store the dates in any 
other way.

I spent ages trying to sort this out and the way described is DEFINATELY 
the best way.
