Ahh seems it might be to do with sandbox security? using passive=yes seems
to work

Hello Russ

I tried using CFFTP...it makes a connection ok....I can use the getCurrDir
attribute ok....but when I try and use listdir I get the following CF error
(this is on cfdeveloper):

Security: The requested template has been denied access to localhost:1024-.

The following is the internal exception message: access denied
(java.net.SocketPermission localhost:1024- listen,resolve)

ColdFusion cannot determine the line of the template that caused this error.
This is often caused by an error in the exception handling subsystem.

Any ideas what this means?

To use FTP you normally use an FTP client such as WSFTP, cute FTP or many
hundreds of others, or maybe you just use Internet explorer. FTP does not
require drive mappings or any access to the server other than an FTP
account.

CFFTP will get back a list of files and folders in the same way that your
FTP client does, and you can work with these the same way as you would have
done using CFDIRECTORY.

Thanks for the input fellas....

Russ I think you may have the closest solution... it would be performing the

action using the server that does have CF on it using CF..

Obviously I do have the FTP login credentials for the other server but
directory browsing is also disabled so not sure if that would affect things?

So... I can use FTP to retrieve the filenames and number of files for a
given directory? Do I need to know the physical drive mappings or anything
like that on the remote server because I don't know any of this information?

Cheers,
Rich
