I *believe* that cfdirectory will read mapped network drives, so if you map
"z:" on the cf server to the remote location, that may work.

You may be able to use UNC mappings in CFDirectory as well - such as
"\\remoteServerName\sharedDirectory"

You'll need to make sure that permissions allow the CF 'user' to access the
remote resources.

I am highly doubtful this is possible but thought I'd ask...

is it possible to use anything like cfdirectory (or anything to achieve the
same ends) to retrieve the number of files and the names of all files on a
completely separate , non-CF server under a different host?

I want to create a small photo album type thing with navigation through
pictures but the content is all held on a completely separate server to the
cf based host server
