Sorry Guys,

Have been out all afternoon at the hospital seeing a consultant with my
partner regarding our baby to be, but all is well so I am a happy chappie!!!

DTS from the awaiting SQL server would be fine but unfortunately this is an
NHS establishment and as a result they want all manner of hoops jumped
through in order to do that so they are asking us for other options of which
this is the one we are pinning our hopes on!!!!

Thanks for all your support, have downloaded BlueDragon Server and about to
start playing, fingers crossed.

Very true, but it'd connect on a different port number - so that could be
tied down.

But yea, otherwise I'd go for the csv.

Unless you can just cfftp the foxpro database itself to the sql server box
and DTS that, or copy the foxpro database and cfftp the copy...

I'm assuming that foxpro is a file-based database here, like Access. I don't
know, I've never actually used it.

LOL Rich agreed :)

But didn't the chap did mention no inbound requests to the foxpro server due
to security restraints?

Wouldn't that rule this option out? If not it's by far the easiest option..

Yes, that's a jolly good idea indeed.

You listen to Mr Russ. He's a clever fella.

You see them flies on him?

No you don't, because there aren't any.

Further simplifying that, it might be possible to create a DTS on the SQL
Server that connects directly to foxpro and imports the data, without any
need for the application layer at all.

Hi Lee

I'm surprised that you can't use a dev copy of CF on the machine but
basically I would do it this way regardless of the technology used,

1. Schedule a task to create a CSV file of the data.
2. Have another task to FTP it to the SQL Server box.
3. Once its on there have a scheduled TASK(could use DTS package or CF for
this) to import the CSV file

I think that's probably the easiest way to do what you are after, I would
recommend you apply error handling to each step though just so you are
notified of issues etc

Afternoon All,

Just looking for some advice really.

I have a Fox Pro database which resides at 1 location, this location has
permanent internet access, I need to (on a daily basis) capture some
information from the Fox Pro Database and send this information to a remote
location (web site) for capture into a SQL database.

Due to the security of the location where the Fox Pro system is, I need to
have a system inside the location so that the information is sent out rather
than pulled from outside.

Need to try and keep the costs down, thinking Blue Dragon 6.2.1 Server
(Free) could sit on a machine inside the location and pick information from
the DB and then send it using something like CFHTTP over to my waiting CF
Server so that it can receive the data and put it into the SQL DB. I know
the Development version of CF can do what I want to do but licensing issues
prevent me from doing it this way, but at least in principle it works.

Would CFHTTP be the best way to send the information out, there could be
about 9000 records to send over on a daily basis, limited information in
each record but would converting it to XML and posting by CFHTTP be the
best???????

Would welcome any comments on the proposed plan and any guidance you
guys/gals have.
