I suspect, much like all of us on here in all of the apps we create, that
the developer of each search engine chooses his/her variable names at their
own discretion.

You'll have to maintain a list of all the different ones against the domain.

Worse still, new SEs enter the market all the time, so your up to date list
of different variable names will be out of date in no time.

And then, there's nothing stopping google changing the name of the variable
(unlikely though).

To be honest, I'd just store the query string and then look at it with human
eyes now and then.

Actually Google will help you out with keywords used go to
http://www.google.com/webmasters/sitemaps/ for all sorts of useful stats
about your domains. And then register for Google Analytics, which is pretty
sweet. And a half. With chips.

Subject: [CF-Dev] Search Engine Keywords

>- see footer for list info -<
Hi

First post on the list here

I'm trying to determine what keywords are being used to come to my site via
search engines by extracting these from the HTTP.referrer

Initially I was going to search for q= in the string and take it from there,
however, I noticed yahoo passes these as p=

Is Yahoo the only search engine which doesn't use p= ?

Does anyone have a list of search engines and the variables they use, or a
function that does something along these lines?

Thanks in advance
Dave
