I try to use a liquid design whenever possible so the layout resizes from
640 up to 1200. Since I've learnt how to do pure CSS layouts (I really
recommend others get into this) this has become easier to do, plus you can
dynamically serve the most suitable CSS based on the user's window size or
media type if you want to take it a stage further.

I used to think the "use CSS, not tables" brigade were a bunch of
extreamists, but I gave it a try and have now joined their ranks. I've gone
all the way and use CSS to separate design and content, so depending on the
CSS served up the layout can look radically different. All images related to
the design are part of the CSS. My only bug bear is the different way IE6
and FF/Opera interprit certain CSS elements, but it's possible to find a
workaround or compromise most of the time.

I generally do 800 x 600 for web sites, 1024 x 768 for intranets/backend
systems.
As more and more devices become internet enabled, you have to assume that
people may be browsing your site in lower resolutions. Your average
numpty
is probably more likley to be using a set top box as these become more
common in the home.
So I guess it depends what type of site your designing. If it is for Joe
Public, then you need to enable the "numpty compensator", if it is for the
more decerning public, such as the I.T. savvy, then you can turn off the
"numpty comptensator".

Just out of interest, I usually design websites with only one design and
for
800 x 600.

After recently researching that 77% of surfers have 1024 x 768 or greater
I
was wondering how you design your sites.

Would a few of you mind sending through an answer.

A. 800 x 600
B. 1024 x 768
C: More than one screen resolution design
D: Other

Thanks
Allan
