cheers peter and russ, i only just saw your replies, i didnt realise you
could just pop an x in there and get it to read the entities in hexadecimal,
my own solution involved converting the hex to decimal, doh! nice and simple
solution, thanks! :D

There is a very simple way - switch the prefix to &#x and add a semicolon
to
the end.

Which in CFML is this:
REReplaceNoCase( text , '\\u0*([0-9A-F]*)' , '&##x\1;' , 'all' )

And in JavaScript is this:
text.replace( /\\u0*([0-9A-F]*)/mgi , '&#x$1;' )
