Or make the image a form input. Clicking it will give you the coords of the
mouse when it was clicked.

Look up the local attractions based on that (I assume you've already got a
solution for that) and then on the resulting page add a transparent flag
image with a higher css z-index than the map input at the coordinates
clicked, adjusted to take into account the size of the flag image.

You could even do all that without a page refresh using a XMLHttpRequest
object. super dooper. I recommend JQuery as your js lib du choix - it'd make
all that very easy for you.

You'd probably have to define pixel boundary areas for the attractions,
rather than single pixel coordinates, as I doubt a user is going to click
exactly on the right pixels, if I'm understanding what it is you're trying
to do.

Other options if you want to dynamically change the image itself by pasting
the flag image into the map are using CF8 with it's new image functions:
imagePaste(), imageOverlay().
