Which version of Word?
If you create an extremely simple document using the same version, then
open it with notepad you should be able to work your way back from the
end of the document to find the string that will tell you where the
start of the displayed area begins.
In my version of Office XP, the string is:
{\insrsid
This usually takes the format:
{\insrsid7562542 Line 1}{\insrsid16533002
\par }{\insrsid7562542
\par Line2
\par Line3}}
This would render as:
Line 1
Line2
Line3
