all TLD's are at least 2 letters but there is no restriction on this AFAIK
but Giles CFHTTP solution is a good one

Syntactically that is a valid URL
if you want to check if the URL is a REAL URL ( ie it actually has a website on the end of it)
you'll need to be a little more clever
