My bad...
I came in this morning and read that before my first cup of coffee.
The first email looked at first glance like about 20 lines of code to do the same job as listQualify()...
I didn't look closely enough to see that almost all of it was setting up the list and calculating the execution time.

Surely it depends on how time-critical the performance of the page is? One judicious comment plus Paul's code for a big performance gain on a page that's hammered a lot makes more sense, IMHO.
I mean, it's not *that* hard to see what it's doing (especially if you've never used listQualify()).
