Terry,

I do a lot of work for a .gov.uk site. Depending on the team you're working
for, you may find them sometimes slow to pay invoices, usually due to them
getting way-layed along the way rather than anything else. You just need to
chase the contract manager. Also, depending on who's commissioning the site,
specs can sometimes be subject to change mid-way, usually if the people
commissioning the site are not all that experienced. The biggest problem
however is textual and design changes, sometimes forced through from on
high.

Also, you will want to really watch the standards set by e-government are
adhered to as well as any operational guidelines the department has with its
hosting service provider. The contracts they have with the hosts, in my
experience, are pretty tight and you may well find things such as it will
take up to 5 days to transfer a site from staging to live etc...

Hope this helps, send me a mail if you have any other questions.
Damien

Subject: [ cf-dev ] OT - CF5 for Goverment Departments

Sorry for the OT, but this seemed absolutely the best place to ask.

Does anyone have good/bad/indifferent experiences on working CF projects
for .gov.uk departments in the recent past?

Have a possible medium-term (direct) contract coming up on Friday, and any
hints/tips in this area would be appreciated. Do they pay well/on time?
Can they be trusted not to change specs mid-stream, etc.?

Don't ask which department, though - I may have to kill you if I told you.

Terry Riley
