Yes have tried pinging but nothing happens.

Httpd.conf:

NameVirtualHost *

<VirtualHost *>
    ServerName desktop
</VirtualHost>

<VirtualHost *>
    DocumentRoot "D:/My Documents/My Webs/site1"
    ServerName site1
</VirtualHost>

<VirtualHost *>
    DocumentRoot "d:/My Documents/My Webs/site2"
    ServerName site2
</VirtualHost>

hosts:

# lots of commecnts

127.0.0.1       localhost
127.0.0.1       site1
127.0.0.1       site2

I have even tried commenting out the localhost entry but that still
works.

Resolution is done HOSTS first, then DNS. Have you tried pinging the new
