Yup apache is running but as I am just pinging that doesn't matter does
it?

Have also tried turning off firewall.

Very strange. It is working for localhost which is set in the hosts file
but doesn't work for anything else I put in there.

Ummm.... are you sure Apache's running? Is the Apache Monitor in the
System Tray? Is the green "play" icon visible with the pink feather
