Yup - but with that kind of logic no commercial company would be
around!! And most seem to be doing alright.

At the end of the day you get what you pay for. Most companies are happy
with a license fee, knowing that they get a guaranteed service, support
and quality.

They are different products though - I haven't used Farcry a great deal,
so I'm not the best person to compare - and I don't think you should be
comparing unless you've tried both options.

May be Daemon will make more money now that they've put Farcry out to
Open Source - perhaps not. Farcry was a commercial product - now it's
gone open-source. You can draw your own conclusions from that.

Oh, and that extensibility issue ;o) - yup, you should definitely speak
to Straker!! Extensibility and developer-friendliness are core features
to Shado.

If you can find 30 minutes, ask Straker for a presentation - I'm sure
you'll be pleasantly surprised!

Cheers for now,

R

True, but in this world I would be using FarCry and not Shado as its
free, open source and very extensible etc.......from a developers point
of view..

I dont believe Shado can compete ever with Open Source as you have the
wealth and breadth of possibly thousands of deelopers improving things
over a company developing a tool to make money...

Neil, it's probably best to get stuck in with both so you can see for
yourself.

Have a play with both and you can then compare easily,

R

I'll throw my tuppence in here then!!

(info at http://www.rawnet.com/products/shado-mx/shado-mx_home.cfm)

We first came across Shado late last year and it is an absolute dream.

Alex is much more knowledgeable than myself on the comparison of Shado
vs Farcry - they are for very different scenarios though.

If you take a look at Shado in detail and play around with it for a bit,
it should become very obvious.

We offer a 30-day evaluation of Shado to qualified prospects, or you
could approach Straker direct.

It's certainly worth comparing both products - the price tag of Shado
isn't generally an issue for clients (particularly as you can lease the
license if required, spreading cost over 3-5 years). When you look at
the feature set compared to other commercial CMS products, it fares very
favourably.

Enough preaching - so endeth the sermon of the Shado,

Cheers,

Ross

hmmm, agree FarCry is very capable and would see a use in some
scenarios, but completely different products.

Not really comparable. Depends what you're trying to achieve.

IMHO

Subject: [ cf-dev ] Shado CMS

Hi
Has anyone implemented Shado CMS by Straker Interactive, it seems to
have very good functionality. Is it easy to implement and
customise/modify as per requirements? Any feedback/comments/experience
of using this cms would be helpful.

Thanks,
Sandeep
