I have seen one... It's called something like superselect or something like that. Not very helpful, BUT I would say that it didn't actually do a very good job. The way it worked was not very user friendly. iow the letters came up in an odd place: the status bar at the bottom of the page...
Either write your own, or put up with how it is... The other option of course is to put all the values into an array (or some sort of JS structure) and give the user a textfield, and not a drop down, and search over the array instead... That way, you can use the interface as it should be used (the user fills in a text field) and not trying to get the user to use something that is unfamiliar.
