The key difference with traditional open source is Daemon. They are a web dev company in AU who origanly made this as a product that they sold, they then saw that they could make a better product and hence more money on consulting if they open sourced it... And now we have a very nice CMS. It runs the UK CFUG site as well as the London MMUG site...
