they do have some template cachig mechanism which is being used but
everything else is being done dynamically

apparently the next release of Commonspot (v3.3) is supposed to have some
kind of static page tool

The whole thing doesn't have to be statically generated but certain
components could be. Im sure that if you talk to paperthin they must
have some built in caching mechanism, im sure it cant be being used if
youre getting render times of like 30 secs.

we have looked at most of the queries/db calls and they are not too bad

most of the time intensive stuff seems to be created by the (Commonspot)
CMS

I have mentioned to client about implementing some sort of
caching/static HTML system but this would be at a cost they are not
willing to outlay at the moment

I have to ask, what is taking so long to process? Surely something can
be cached, or broken up into smaller loads, or even separated off onto a
separate box/process?

The timeouts are there to protect the server from being thrashed by
misbehaved pages.

You should have that on but what are the page render times under load,
1-4 seconds ?, you want to make sure that you set it significantly high
enough, maybe 20 seconds.

Guys

Following on from yesterdays mail about server problems...

Looking in the CF Admin settings, is it advised to have the "Timeout
requests after x seconds" selected and what is an advisable time? Ours
is currently unselected.

AND, is it advisable to have the "Restart at X unresponsive requests"
checked? Ours is checked but apparently requires the "timeout requests
after x seconds" to be checked, which is unselected.
