Spike mentioned that if you turn on debugging then CF gets *very* slow .. I was just curious if the framework was quite slow anyway ? Looking at the framework it seems to 'do' a lot .. wondering if this would make for sluggish performance on a larger site ?
Mach II is defiantly something I want to investigate when I have some more free time.
Well... if you're going to be defiant about it... we won't stop you!
Seriously, the framework is good. It works well, although it does take some time to get your head round it in terms of building complex apps.
I would (as suggested) d/l the source code for the site, and go through it. Also, pick up the design patterns book, and at the very least learn something about OO design (if you don't know about it already).
After all that, build some simple apps (you know, address books, calendars, news feeds etc) and you should be fine!
An advantage of mach-ii is the developer base. If something does go wrong, there are people around to help. If you "roll-your-own" or use a system with less of a community, it's more of a risk imho.
Just my 2p
