Ok, a few things to check.
1. is the sql server on perform.bgfl.org setup for tcp access or named pipes?
If TCP access (which I'd assume if your using CFMX/JDBC on server)
2. is there a firewall between perform.bgfl.org and marge blocking port 1433 (default SQL port). For marge to access perform.bgfl.org, port 1433 would have to be allowed OUT from marge to perform.bgfl.org
