I could be wrong, but the whole point of the database option was to cope with a larger number of concurrent sessions. Possibly even some fancy integration with your own applications.
With a server farm your load is balanced out, and hopefully you have fewer concurrent sessions per box. So use what is fastest and copes with what you expect to throw at it.
