That's a rather crazy Xorg bug that is much easier to trigger under Compiz than
Metacity (but is possible to trigger under anything), and the way you trigger
your bug seems suspiciously similar to the how I trigger that bug.
If this is your bug, downgrading xorg-server to the 1.4 release should fix it.
