Hi Bob, I've got it working now. The hybrid image misled me a bit as I had never heard it is possible to create such a beast ;) I posted the solution for my problem on the list already, it was just that in addition to changing the boot device priority I needed to set the USB flash as "1st drive" in Hard Disk Drives setup screen in Eee 901 BIOS, Otherwise, the image file and instructions on the web worked just fine.
