I did not have any of these problems, however the problem was solved,
which you'll find if you read the replies on this thread (Eee BIOS had
two HD related settings that were required for booting from USB key).

In the unfortunate quote above I was actually asking how hybrid
ISO/bootable HD image works.  I should have left the "didn't work"
part away.  That was not problem description, I know.

Although the web page [1] has good instructions on how to write the
.iso to flash disk or burn it on CD, could it be mentioned there that
it is a hybrid image that at the same time can be bootable HD image
and valid ISO 9660 filesystem?  I assume this is fairly new hack and
not well known?

For the curious who also saw this kind of image file now for the first
time see isohybrid script [2] in the latest syslinux releases.
