On the surface that assessment makes sense, but libreboot (while not libre anymore) still carries additional value compared to upstream coreboot. First of all, it standardizes a release schedule and releases in general, whereas coreboot is rolling-release more or less (I realize they have official releases with numbering, but it isn't related to usability or state of code in a direct manner). I.E.: "known good release". Moreover, libreboot makes building the coreboot sources much more simple and streamlined. So far, most of the deviation from older versions of libreboot shows up in the form of adding boards that aren't fully libre. This means it is still easier to librate libreboot than duplicating a lot of the effort all over separately. -- Kind Regards, Wael Karram.
