good q. is zypper an integral part of tizen? from the view of
someonme on a
tizen system who wants to add a package - eg a debugger to get work
done... it
is.
Zypper is not part of Tizen compliance and as Yocto does not use
Zypper is quite logical not to have it.
Model with Yoco is that you do an image for what you need, not a base
image where you add later Package from a repo.
While it could be done, it"s certainly not coming by default.
my question is more one of "maybe it should be there by default as a
core part of tizen?" as it has key value to tizen as an OS. it makes
tizen useful. it differentiates tizen. it makes an installed tizen
device EASY to extend as a developer of that device or as someone
interested in augmmenting it.
I agree that having a working package manager in "Tizen on Yocto" will
be convenient for development. Furthermore, this package manager should
be a feature which can be easily enabled or disabled from a recipe or
from conf/local.conf.
AFAIK since Yocto project 1.4 zypper has been replaced by smart. So may
be if we don't want zypper in "Tizen on Yocto" then we can adapt smart
and adjust its channels to download.tizen.org.
Dominig, do you know who is the maintainer of "Tizen on Yocto" right
now? Is there a road map for its development?
Recently I reported several bugs related to "Tizen on Yocto". I fixed
some of them but my patches have been pending for a merge for very long
time: https://review.tizen.org/gerrit/#/c/39798/
Who is supposed to merge or reject the pending changes in "Tizen on Yocto"?
Thanks,
Leon
also - is smack a required thing in tizen. sure- adds security, but
is it a
hard dep - no smack, then it's not tizen?
I can confirm that pint, no Smack, no Tizen.
My advise is to reactivate Smack ASAP as making it at the end of the
project would be more than a serious pain.
Believe me, we tried :-(
so saying.. smack -> pain. ? :) /me looks around for casey...
