<https://docs.mongodb.com/ecosystem/drivers/driver-compatibility-reference/#java-driver-compatibility>
 says the 2.x driver only supports MongoDB 3.0 and partly supports MongoDB 3.2.
https://www.mongodb.com/support-policy <https://www.mongodb.com/support-policy>
says MongoDB 3.0 reached EOL February of last year and 3.2 last September.
Given that Log4j 2 3.0 hasn’t been released and is unlikely to be released for
several more months I see no reason to keep providing compatibility with the
MongoDB 2.x when that is released.
