i'm pretty sure steven meant versioned/unversioned in the sense that the
current site has general pages, and then pages that are specific to certain
releases..

IIRC, the "versioned" pages are not checked in to svn, they are just unziped
dumps of the docs from the corresponding release.
my understanding is that with the new CMS, all of those pages will need to go
into SVN - not a big deal really, they go in once and never change
