bq: Not true. Lucene is a library. 100% of its users are developers. Well, developers don't operate in a vacuum either. There will be some set of them that cannot use Java 8. It's perfectly reasonable to decide that we can't confine ourselves forever because some people will be inconvenienced and go ahead with it.
I'm not at all saying java8 is a bad idea here.
