[~anshumg] So are you saying that we'll eventually just remove this altogether
from the node? If we're not I don't see the harm in allowing this pattern, but
if the eventual (maybe near-term?) goal is to just not have it as part of the
node at all then adding this in seems like it'd make more work down the road.
