Erick Erickson commented on SOLR-7836:
--------------------------------------

bq: I tried applying the last patch and running TestStressReorder and luckily
it does fail often for me.

Yep, I saw that last night. I looked a bit at whether it was a test artifact
and apparently it's not so I was going to dive into that today.

Anyway, since you're working up alternatives, I'll leave it to you. The current
checkin (not the latest patch which I won't commit) at least avoids the
deadlock that started me down this path in the first place. Whether it creates
other issues is, of course, the $64K question. Let me know if there's anything
I can do besides cheer you on.

> Possible deadlock when closing refcounted index writers.

> Preliminary patch for what looks like a possible race condition between
> writerFree and pauseWriter in DefaultSorlCoreState.
> Looking for comments and/or why I'm completely missing the boat.
