Shawn Heisey commented on SOLR-8036:
------------------------------------

Some related things I thought of that need their own issues:

 * A script and infrastructure for install/upgrade on Windows.
 * A script for installing and configuring a standalone zookeeper service.
** I don't expect that running this script will install the service on three
nodes ... but running the script with similar options (the same except for the
node number) on three nodes should produce a functional ensemble.
 * A ZK install script for Windows.
 * Docs for all of the above.

I myself have no plans to install on Windows, but plenty of users do, and if we
can create simple deployment, we should.

> Include step-by-step instructions and a script to upgrade an existing Solr
> install

> This reference guide page, which is where I hoped to find existing
> documentation for upgrading Solr, is essentially equivalent to CHANGES.txt:
> I'm envisioning a general set of instructions, with notes/outtakes/something
> detailing different things a user should do at specific points if specific
> 5.x releases require different instructions.
> For scripting, I don't know if it should be an additional feature of the
> install_server.sh script, or a separate script entirely.
