I saw Learning-to-Rank on your profile and so perhaps https://issues.apache.org/jira/browse/SOLR-10174 might be of interest as a (hopefully) not too difficult first issue to get started with. You could also browse issues in JIRA to see if anything particularly matches your interests, browse generally or search-and-browse e.g. with these search criteria: project=SOLR AND status not in (Resolved,Closed) AND labels=newbie Hope that helps.
