Just wanted others to be aware. The recent changes made to Lucene made
some queries incredibly fast (yay):

while others seem to suffer:

http://people.apache.org/~mikemccand/lucenebench/AndMedOrHighHigh.html

I actually hit the latter case when doing some benchmarking around ram
directory and was puzzled for a while about why the software dropped
2x in performance between commits that didn't do anything.

The queries I use are fairly unusual (complex Booleans); I also pinged
Adrien in private to verify my and my computer's sanity. :) The commit
introducing the change is:

99dbe9368 LUCENE-8060: IndexSearcher's search and searchAfter methods
now only compute total hit counts accurately up to 1,000.

Again: I don't think it's the usual "human user" query case, but may
be worth investigating (and I'm not throwing it on your shoulders,
Adrien! ;)
