   Points like these really sold your "line by line" approach to me. The 
(incorrect) assumption that I made was that most/all of the contributors and 
maintainers are as familiar with the (Java) Lucene codebase as the core Lucene 
devs, or the degree of communication between the projects. Admittedly, this was 
an assumption I made without looking it up. If this is not true, then any other 
approach would fail, agreed.
