Karl Wright commented on CONNECTORS-616:
----------------------------------------

bq. I realized that this broken pipe error occurred not only in Solr 4.0 but
also in Solr 3.6.

This doesn't mean much because Solr 3.6 includes the same Jetty, and likely the
same HttpServlet implementation, as 4.0. My conclusion that the problem is
server-side is based on the code present in SolrJ and in HttpPoster.java.
While the SolrJ implementation is not perfect, it is correct when used in the
way we currently use it. (I will be opening a few Solr tickets related to the
issues I have found.) The HttpPoster code seems to be completely correct.

> Broken pipe exceptions should be being considered a Solr document rejection,
> akin to a 4xx error code.
