Further back-and-forth with Dmitry made me realize that he is running in
Amazon, but against a Server 2008 R2 instance that his teammate installed
himself. Clearly something went wrong in the installation process.
So I've merged the (cleaner, stronger, better) code from
branches/CONNECTORS-772 back to trunk, and will close this ticket. r1524560.
