In NeoOffice/J Alpha (I haven't ugraded to Beta, the latest, yet), which is based on OOo 1.1.2 (I think), I find the following option in the menu:
Insert > Graphics > Scan > [Select Source] or [Request]
Without a scanner attached (though I have one in this chaos somewhere), I don't see anything happen if I select either of these options. No mention of TWAIN, nor any error message, just quiet.
I'd like to answer this question, though, so please make suggestions for me to test.

Twain is for windows. Sane is for *NIX. Macs with OOo are in the latter
class.
I believe SANE is also available for Windows. The question is academic really.
Provided the hardware uses a standard interface, it matters not whether the
host computer uses TWAIN or SANE to get the info.
So to answer the original question, your product will function correctly
provided its interface is standard.
Hi there
I would like to offer OpenOffice in part with our product the portable
scanner the DocuPen for our mac clients. Check out our product at

We need a software that is functionable on Mac OS X and is TWAIN compliant...two very important factors.
Can you let me know if OpenOffice works with OS X and TWAIN compliancy???...
