An interesting thing about the MarCon list is the number of countries
not represented.

Marketing Contacts for non-English speaking countries are often drawn from the NL projects. But I am often contacted directly or through webmasters.

I wanted to list lots of countries showing vacancies so potential MarCons would see there is a vacancy. A bit like not wishing to take the first bit of the pie. But others have disagreed with me, as they said it looks poor if we have lots of vacancies. At the moment, there are countries listed without names attached as they were vacated and or I was already talking to someone to fulfil the role.

For example I have visited Serbia/Montenegro and Poland
as a result of interest in the INGOTs so there is definitely OOo
interest in these two countries yet no Marcon as far as I can tell for
either.

I'm talking to someone at the moment that wishes to become a MarCon for Poland :)

We have tended to draw on people that participate in the OOo MP. But certainly people that have been introduced to the community by other community members.

Also, the NL project members are guided by Charles-H and Louis to participate in the MarCon role. Just as I guide people to the NLC if they come through the MP door.

I wonder if its simply that they don't know the job exists? If
so, thinking about making the web site more accessible in all respects
should be a high priority.

Very few pages of the MP are linked as it is a project like any other, but the effects of the work done here are reflected in many other parts of the site. But the MarCon list, press pages, etc are specifically linked from the press kit, about, intro etc.

From experience, we have learnt that we need people that are known to us and actively participate in the MP.

One of the problems that sometimes manifests itself is that of conflict of interest. DMOZ requests that you declare all the sites that you create or maintain. We may have to do something similar here.

The structure and operation of the MP is described here
