Yes. I'm cc'ing Sophie directly; she has some experience there, as do
many of the other NLC leads. But we also have the "sister sites," e.g.,
Craig Adams' OpenOffice.za, Chris Herrnberger's OpenOffice.ca, to name
but two (and maybe that's all).

I'd like to move ahead with this idea, regional groups. But I'd like to
see what such groups would be good for.

Things that come to mind:

* Same function as LUGs--education, "reference" spot, events, etc.
Arguably, we could also work with them--and with Moz, or KOffice, if
feasible.

* Marketing--but then we need to work, for efficiency's sake, with the
MarCons here. This is not bureaucracy. Rather it is the opposite: to
find out what is being done already.

As to how OOo would relate to this:

There could be thousands of regional groups, one or several per city,
say, and then some. I'd suggest, then, that we provide the "seed" tools,
or make them available. Then we just list new OOOUGs (as we were
calling them before) by simply adding the group's name and contact
address as it is given to us; up to them to inform us. A group's news
could be sent to the project--cool; but it need not be. And, when have
local events, the MarCon would be presumably able to work with the
group.

The key points are that yes, local user groups is a great idea and that
we ought to provide the seed tools, and we list them, for their members'
benefit. Then, we work with them and the relevant MarCon as needed.
