Ubuntu, which I've been using lately, has OOo 2.0 but not Base.
Therefore, I expect they've removed the Java-dependent parts already,
while leaving the rest of OOo in the distro.

Err, both my Warty Warthog and my Hoary Hedgehog have OOo ... OOo 2 is
also 'getting there' i.e. it crashes rather a lot :-(
