Hello,
first, just wanted to let you know that openoffice is so far ahead
of the others, it's frightning.

My impressions of open source software initially were of the old text
interface and commands. I know it's stupid, but thats the impression a lot
of people have. If you can show how user friendly open source is, it's GUI,
as well as it's incredible functionality, you would undoubtably kick ass.

I am a web developer (just going out on my own) working with all macromedia
and adobe products simply because they are imho the best. But I am aware of
The Gimp and have used it a number of times and it's 95% as good as
photoshop.

Basically guys, myself and no doubt a lot of webdevs, are patiently waiting
for linux OS support for all adobe and macromedia products, as these are the
mainstay in this field. Alternativley, a suite of products that do that same
thing but are open source and run on both linux and windoze for image,
video, audio, web, and Flash. Of course you could talk to adobe/macro and
see what they can do !!! (I know it's a huge process and I don't mean to be
blaze' about it )

Also, I find PDF files extremly important for website dev, I use them in
many different ways. Before openoffice, all I knew was that I needed to
fork out for MS office and adobe acrobat professional, all up about $600+!!
The only time I knew your program suite will easily convert a openoffice or
word doc to PDF was when I had installed it and noticed the export as pdf
function, and I went nuts! I have since sold my copy of MS office to some
poor fella. You really need to let people know about this function, to me
it's like email to the internet relationship....very important!!

My website will be up in a few months (tons of planning and graphics to do
yet) and will be made up of many sub domains, one of those will be
multimedia links, advice and tutorials for webdev's starting out. I have a
strict limit of two links per program field and really want to help in any
way to promote, not just openoffice but all good GNU software. Also, I build
systems for locals here and was wondering how I go about installing
openoffice as the standard office suite? I presume I donate, but how much?
when? can I order a CD with all platform versions? any details will be
great.

domains are ricmedia.com.au & ricmedia.com but dont click yet, there nothing
there.

Cheers
Rich
