By posting to this public list you have removed the opportunity for Ryan
to step down in good grace.
I asked Ryan before I posted my note if it was okay with him for
me to do so, and he agreed that the real reason should be known.
I would not have posted in public otherwise.
Your idea of "good grace" must be different from mine. His abrupt
departure could otherwise be interpreted by others as sour
grapes, rather than gracefully accepting a demand from you to
resign.

That is true. No one ever knows the full story, sometimes not even the
direct participants.
I will only now consider public critique to Ryan at his
request.
I don't understand this sentence. Do you mean that if Ryan says okay,
you will give the reasons here? I have forwarded your note
to Ryan (as he is no longer on the list), and cc'd him on this
note from me, so we'll see what happens.

I have been forcing myself not to comment on the things that have been
happening over the weekend. I am not really sure how to respond, I too
have talked to Ryan a little sense his "announcement", I have also
considered leaving, but I think I can still do some good for the
project, so for now I will stay.
It does sadden me that a person like Ryan was asked to step down as a
MarCon because his views did not coincide with what one member thought
was the way to go.
The next year should be interesting, mainly because of OpenDocument. If
it is approved as an ISO standard then things get really interesting,
and then if MS finally comes to it's senses and adopts OpenDocument then
things get way more interesting. I feel that some people fear this
second step, but I welcome it, then OOo can compete on it's merits and
have a level to compete in, I feel this is a reason for OOo to support
OpenDocument and the people that are pushing it. It only helps us if MSO
switches to OpenDocument, we can then go about promoting OOo with its
friendly volunteers and Open Source nature. It sure will be easier to
migrate people if the file formats are the same. then MSO really has
nothing keeping people using it.
I feel like I am rambling on again, so for now that is all I have.
