I did, and I still disagree with your stance on Otto. I don't find him immature, or Ian's statements about him immature. Should the Ed Project have its own website? Sure. I think that OpenOffice.org should have a Spread OOo site, like Spreadfirefox.com that is made for the sole purpose of promoting OpenOffice.org - and another site for prospects to learn about OOo like getopenoffice.org or something. I despise having the Project site and Program site and the Promotion site all in one monolithic site, and I have said such in the past. So on that point, I guess, we agree. But your overall reaction to Otto I disagree with, as well as your statement, "To do that we have to work their interests and culture..." Yes indeed... to everyones interests and culture... That's impossible. There's no way to do one thing to statisfy everyone's interests and cultures. It's better to try to reach *EACH* culture on its own terms (very different from every - this allows for multiple means to the same end, instead of one means to one end with all people). And, again, I feel that your attack on Otto and on Ian's statements as being very anti-marketing are uncalled for and wrong. First of all, that page is not meant as a marketing tool - your example of it being like a window display is faulty - it's more like it's a tool in the back office - not something for the window display. I mean, I would never eat at a restaurant if their window showed their dish washing room. Even though the dish room is important, and I want a restaraunt to have one, it's not meant for public viewing, and isn't appealing to look at. Now, I don't think Otto or that page is a dish room, but hopefully, you get the idea. If the whole point of your email was to illustrate the need for multiple website, then I agree with your goal. But I do not agree with many of the things you said in getting to that point. -- - Chad Smith http://www.gimpshop.net/ Because everyone loves free software!
