Hi,
An off list mail from Kami told me that he has been working for some
time now on the set of templates that are included in "Oxygen Office",
I was not in copy of this mail but it arrives in English on the French
lists.
Ah?
the bundle of OOo with goodies Kami maintains and that is hosted
elsewhere for licensing reasons. Kami told me that he had spent quite
some time collecting information on the authors and the licenses of
these templates.
I can imagine the work it could be.
He would love to have some central repository for all
these templates that are at the moment scattered all around the net, on
different web sites.
I, through the French association (and I think a few others) can offer
some space to have all in one place. But the issue is, since the
beginning, that Kami is working alone.
Even if we (fr community) supported what he is doing, no way for us to
collaborate.
Even if we (fr community) supported the global scope, there is some
rules (at least the French law) to respect, so no way for us to
collaborate if it's not respected
Even if we (fr community) have some resource to offer, things are going
else where or off list, so, one more time, no way to collaborate.
I had my share of criticism about Kami's work and the way he would come
up everytime either with things we couldn't do or develop things on his
own, out of the project.
Nonetheless, if Kami wishes to upload the "premium" content that comes
with Oxygen Office on the extensions web site (with the proper
information on authors and licenses), I think it's a very good idea.
I want to do that as soon as possible. Also I want to use of advantage
of extension like versioning, automatic updates etc. Also I want to
integrate an license screen (oxt already support this). So I want to be
the one of first extension submitter to extension site. Here I hope we
can store many kind of things like extension, templates, etc.
I do not see the problem about external template development/colleting
place until all goal is posted back to OpenOffice.org. This will be
always true from my part. Also I prefer SVN over CVS for many of reasons
-- for example I can't reach CVS from my workplace :o( but just from home.
So I hope our project does not seem to be evil from your point of view.
We want to do uselful things for OpenOffice.org.
Best regards,
KAMI
My answer is that OOo will soon have an extension repository like
Firefox, and that users and volunteers will be able to upload their
contributions there.
As long as, respect of law, needs and collaboration are discussed
together, I'm sure the community will be willing to help.
Any questions? Problems you would like to discuss?
How do I (and how do I help the FR community which is willing to
contribute) help to contribute to this project taking into acount what I
said above.
Sophie, that's what I don't understand. What project are you talking
about? The extensions web site? Join in to the website at extensions dot
Openoffice dot org mailing list then ...
Best,
Charles.
