Hi,
An off list mail from Kami told me that he has been working for some
time now on the set of templates that are included in "Oxygen Office",
the bundle of OOo with goodies Kami maintains and that is hosted
elsewhere for licensing reasons. Kami told me that he had spent quite
some time collecting information on the authors and the licenses of
these templates. He would love to have some central repository for all
these templates that are at the moment scattered all around the
net, on
different web sites.
My answer is that OOo will soon have an extension repository like
Firefox, and that users and volunteers will be able to upload their
contributions there.
Do you have a specific time frame for release?
No but I'm sure the team has..

Could you help to fix non coding extension related issues (more on non
code extension wiki page): lack of localize facility, unusable
external gallery elements?
I'd love to and was planning this except that the ODF vs OOXML takes all
my attention these days. But you should contact the team of volunteers
working on the wiki page...
ODF vs OOXML is also an interesting article.
Any questions? Problems you would like to discuss?
This is better than including loads of stuff in the software, right?
Yes you are probably right, but in my opinion OpenOffice.org should
contain more professional stuffs (vector cliparts, templates). I think
increasing the installer not more than 5-8 MB is reasonable.
Have you got advice how I should create extensions for OpenOffice.org
- divide extension into language specific templates? Could you be so
kind to review the current situation and give me advice about possible
improvement?
I'm sorry I don' t have the time for that. I think that packaging
extensions is explained on the wiki though.
It really sounds like a very good id´ea. The first page for
openoffice.org should Really mention this. This is what people want to
see.
I agree, this marketplace should get a spot on main page of
OpenOffice.org. Also an integrated browsing functionality
"integrated browsing"?
You can select and download templates/other good from the application
directly.
into OpenOffice.org is a necessary step forward. Our competitors do as
same.
Well, we'd love you to contribute to the code, Kami, work on the CVS
(and not on SF), etc...
Sorra I am not a real programmer :o( But I have ideas :o)
Best,
Charles.
