yes, I fear you are right, and I did not consider this point.

So, a solution would be to send one package to the US, one to Europe.
Once it is been inside Europe, I guess it can be sent to other European
countries without having to pay taxes anymore, because it's Europe.

That's correct. Once inside the EU (and the duty/import taxes have been paid) the goods can be sent freely within the EU zone.

Depending on the overall value, the country of entry can make a difference as individual EU states can and do have different VAT rates...

Also worth considering is if the recipient of the shipment is VAT registered then the VAT can be reclaimed if this is related to their business.
