Here in the UK, *ANYTHING* that is imported from outside of the EU which has a value of more than (approx) £100 is taxable (whether it gets "caught" or not is another matter).

The import duty itself is a nightmare to workout unless you are a tax expert (Golf Clubs for example get a 2.7% duty, but Golf Balls are different IIRC). The duty is calculated by Taric Code: Here is the EU web site where you can search for your Taric Code :-) Have fun...

Once the duty has been levied, then VAT, at 17.5%, is applied to the total (Including the senders shipping costs!). Oh yes, I forgot that the company actually importing the goods also charges some money for getting it through customs. And guess what? That is usually levied before the taxes are calculated!
