For 3.0 Beta, I think, it would be nice to have a feature list similar to the ones we had for 1.1 and 2.0 again:

http://www.openoffice.org/dev_docs/features/2.0/index.html
http://www.openoffice.org/dev_docs/features/1.1/index.html

Since one key target audience for that page would be all the completely new users, the page should not only list the new features introduced with 3.0, but also the key features from 2.1, 2.2, 2.4 plus extensions and the PIM (Mozilla Lightning/Thunderbird). Thus, the goal of the page would be to illustrate the status quo to users who had not heard of OpenOffice.org before. The feature list could still mention with what release or extension a particular feature was introduced the first time, but the goal would be to present one coherent and compelling story to new users.

Having said that, what 2.x - 3.0 features do you think are the most important and thus should be "featured"? Here are a few URL's of pages that list the different features and extensions:

http://blogs.sun.com/GullFOSS/entry/what_s_up_in_ooo
http://www.mozilla.org/projects/calendar/lightning/
http://blogs.sun.com/GullFOSS/entry/pdf_import_first_milestone_reached
http://blogs.sun.com/GullFOSS/entry/presenter_screen
http://extensions.services.openoffice.org/most_pop_ext
http://wiki.services.openoffice.org/wiki/New_Features_2.4
http://wiki.services.openoffice.org/wiki/New_Features_2.3
http://www.openoffice.org/press/press_release_ooo2.2.0.html
http://development.openoffice.org/releases/2.2.0.html
http://www.openoffice.org/servlets/ReadMsg?list=announce&msgNo=311
http://development.openoffice.org/releases/2.1.0.html

The list of features should not be too long, i.e. not list every single feature, but focus on the most compelling ones. For me these include:

* Mac OS X Aqua version
* New Chart
* Solver
* Enhanced PDF export
* PDF/A support
* ODF 1.2 support
* Presentation Minimizer extension
* Mozilla Lightning calendar client
* ...

What features would you like to "nominate"?

BTW, who is willing to help with screenshots and feature descriptions? We even might want to include screencasts of key features.

Cheers,
Erwin

Hi,

we are close before 3.0 Beta release, I think we need to prepare some collaterals for this.

The release notes are not started yet, http://wiki.services.openoffice.org/wiki/New_Features_3.0 ? Should the release notes contain the diff between 2.4 and 3.0 release. IMHO we also need a list with all the diff from 2.0 to 3.0. We need to be prepared to some obvious questions: * Why do we do major version if the diff between 2.4 and 3.0 is so small. (see also the blog http://blogs.sun.com/GullFOSS/entry/numbers_about_the_release_of ).
* Do we need to do better release notes, do we need a better feature page ?
* How is the story around our extensions ?

* Do we need something like a press kit ?
* What do we want to do with linking to non openoffice.org site, do we need rules for this ?
