Like I said Call for paper in SCALE is over, so nothing much that can be done there, I am not a scheduled speaker. Again SCALE is like the most developer-friendly event in the US next to OSCON. Failing to attend there would be a big missed chance for OOo as a whole. Being relatively close to the event allow me to go down there but not without needing around 1,000 dls.
my main problem is that I'm always hesitant of granting people funding "just" for being there. Sure, being on events is important, but without a booth or workshop or speech or some scheduled meetings this is always a hard decision, because basically we give people money just "to be there" and I want to avoid that whenever possible. It would be much easier for us if there was one of the above mentioned activities.
Given that most people voted +1 on this list, I think your request seems to be valid. Cor, Italo, what do you think as budget authorizers? Looking at the public poll, it might be a valid request.
We nontheless have to wait for John as budget holder before a final decision can be made (and John's moving houses at the moment, being offline for some days). :-)
For the next events, I'd appreciate if anyone requesting a funding would do something of the above mentioned things to make it "safer". But, I also agree, some more concrete policies need to be written down.
Basically, +1 from my side. Florian --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: [email protected] For additional commands, e-mail: [email protected]
